Obituary for Arlene M. Ferree
Arlene M. Ferree (née Martin), age 92, formerly of Norwich, devoted mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, March 4, 2018, surrounded by her family at Maplewood Senior Living in Bethel, CT. Mrs. Ferree was born in Norwich on January 28, 1926, the daughter of Beatrice (Bergeron) Martin and Alfred W. Martin of Taftville. A lifelong Norwich resident and business owner, Mrs. Ferree graduated from the Norwich Free Academy where her artwork was recognized in two CT Regional Scholastic Art Competitions. A graduate of the CT Hairdressing Academy in Hartford, CT she began her career as a hair stylist in downtown Norwich, before starting her own business, “Arlene Hairdresser”, on Town Street in 1960, which she ran for over 20 years. Mrs Ferree is survived by her children, Robert J Ferree, Jr, of Boston, MA and wife, Diane; Barbara Ferree Brooks of Ridgefield, CT and her husband, Gordon; two grandchildren, Cameron and Julia Brooks; a sister, Claire Watts of White River Jct, VT; a niece, Susan W Baldwin and nephew, David Watts and wife Kathy, all residents of Vermont. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert J Ferree. Besides running a successful business, Mrs Ferree was a keen birdwatcher and shared with her family a love for exploring new places. All are invited to attend a funeral service at the Taftville Congregational Church Saturday March 24 at 10:00am. On-site reception following service. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Regional Hospice and Palliative Care (30 Milestone Rd, Danbury, CT 06810 ( www.regionalhospicect.org), or the CT Audubon Society (www.audubonct.org).
