Obituary for Beatrice Barbara Donohue
Beatrice Barbara Pelkey Donohue, 80, was taken by angels on Saturday April 2, 2022 after a short illness. She was born June 15, 1941 to Louva (Moquin) and Ernest Pelkey in Massena , NY. She attended high school at Massena High School graduating in 1959.
Bea is survived by her husband of 62 years Pete Donohue. Her children Kathy and her husband Dave Bentley of Windham, Tom and his wife Christine Donohue of Enfield, and Cindy and her husband Greg Shirshac of Scotland. She also leaves behind grandchildren Josh Bentley, Reuben and Mandy Shirshac, Shane Shirshac, Chelsea and Curtis Sciabarrisi, and Sean and Kerry Donohue. Great grandchildren Peyton, Reagan, Easton, and Colton Shirshac.
Bea is also survived by her brother Duane Pelkey of Norfork, NY, sisters Elaine Krywancayk of Orlando, FL, and Ann Francis of Massena, NY. Sister-in-law Joan and husband John Rodgers of Sandy Hook, CT as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters Mary Jane Mattice and Debbie Guimond both of Messena, NY.
Bea worked throughout the years as a secretary/bookkeeper at Gauthier Tire, American Thread, Prague Shoes, Sage Allen, and Camp Horizon. She also volunteered with Windham Hospice for many years.
Bea was an accomplished seamstress as well as crafter. One of her favorite things to do was to repeatedly mend her grandchildren’s stuffed animals, blankets and pillows. She was an avid UConn lady huskies and Mohegan Sun fan, watching every game and attending many in person. She enjoyed cruises with Pete and close friends Tim and Carol Killeen of Windham.
“Nana” had many experiences with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Along with Pete, she attended many games, recitals, school activities, and any milestone in their lives and they will have great memories of all of it.
Bea lived life to the fullest, enjoying many adventures with her family and friends. She wasn’t afraid to try new things and was always ready to help others. She was always a friend to whomever needed her.
Friends and family are invited for calling hours on Sunday April 10 from 2-4PM at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson Street Willimantic. A graveside service will be held on Monday April 11 at 11AM at Windham Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested for St. Joseph Living Center 14 Club Rd. Windham, CT 06280. The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all of the staff at Hartford Hospital for their unwavering and warm care.
