Obituary for Charles J. Mullaney
Charles J. Mullaney, 77, known to friends as "Charlie," returned to his heavenly home on July 18, 2017.
Charlie was born to the late Robbie Box Mullaney Knofla and Charles J. Mullaney on November 23, 1939 in Miami, FL.
Charlie was a graduate of St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers, MA, and the Culinary Institute of America in New Haven, CT.
With a heart for hospitality, ever-present optimism, and love of people, Charlie was best known as the owner of The Clark’s Restaurant in Willimantic, CT, taking it over from his mother Robbie in 1963 following her death. It was run as a family business for over three decades. After the closing of the restaurant in 1991, Charlie and his wife Renate relocated to Fort Pierce, Florida.
Charlie served on a number of boards, including most recently, the Reef Ocean Resort in Vero Beach, Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Renate (nee Eckstein) Mullaney, children, Robin (Nick) Schade, Mark (Krista) Mullaney, his grandsons, Charles and Joshua Mullaney, sister-in-law Isabella Vernon, and niece Larysa Vernon. His daughter, Cahney (Constance) Mullaney joined him in heaven only six days after his passing, on Monday, July 24, 2017.
There will be a private burial at St. Joseph’s cemetery in Willimantic, CT.
