Obituary for Diane Claire Price
Diane Claire Price passed away on September 13, 2018. Dede, as she was known to those who loved her, was born on March 6, 1956 to Kermit and Theresa Price.
Dede was born with down syndrome during a time when those afflicted were thought to be incapable of living full and happy lives. At the time of her birth, her parents were told that her life expectancy was 20 years. Due to her indomitable spirit and passion for life, she lived to be 62. At the age of 11, Dede was place in the care of the State's Department of Developmental Services and resided in group homes throughout southeastern Connecticut. The caregivers that staffed these group homes are in a class all to themselves. Their patience, kindness and love for Dede provided her with the confidence to participate in her community in ways never thought possible. She worked at the Mystic Oral School and Caldor's. She enjoyed nature and animals and made life long friends.
Dee loved the holidays. She spent Thanksgiving and Christmas with her family. Her external child reminded us of the true meaning of these times. Her laughter and excitement were infectious. She forced us to recognize what was truly important and to be thankful for being alive, having family and being loved. Dede made us kinder. We were blessed to know and love her.
Dede was predeceased by her loving parents, Kermit and Theresa Price. She leaves her sisters and brother, Joan Jetmore and her husband David Jetmore, Ruth Piotrowski and her husband Jay Piotrowski and David Price and his wife, Diane Des'marte Price. , her nieces and nephews, Lori Comforti, James Serra, Claire Des'marte Price, Gabrielle Des'marte Price, Marlo Piotrowski, Molly Comforti and Luke Hall, her friend, Mary Ellen Westcott and her family at Shore Road Group Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Center for Hospice Care, 227 Dunham Street, Norwich, CT 06360.
A funeral mass will take place on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Taftville with burial at St. Joseph Cemetery, 815 Boswell Ave in Norwich. Godere Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
