Obituary for Gladys L. Chudy
Stonington - Gladys L. Chudy of Lord's Point passed away Tuesday evening at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Norwich August 12, 1924 the daughter of Otto and Anna (Troeger) Levitsky.
A lifelong resident of the Taftville and Stonington area, Gladys was a 1942 graduate of Norwich Free Academy, and went on to graduate from ECSU in 1975 with her Masters Degree. While at NFA she developed lifelong friendships with a group of ladies known as "The Girls" and they remained in close contact for the rest of their lives. Gladys worked as a teacher in the Norwich School System from 1971-1986. On November 27, 1947 in Taftville Congregational Church, she was united in marriage to Stanley V. Chudy. He passed away August 25, 2006. Gladys was a lifelong member of Taftville Congregational Church, where she served as clerk and historian, she was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Norwich Teachers League. She is survived by her son Carl L. Chudy and his wife Mary of Stonington, two daughters Eileen Morehouse also of Stonington, and Donna Hughes and her husband William of Taftville, six grandchildren Jack Morehouse, Amy Noto, Russell Hughes, Christopher Hughes, Katherine Hughes, and Martha Chudy, seven great grandchildren, and her sister-in-law Nina Chudy of Lisbon.
Funeral to be held at Taftville Congregational Church Saturday at 10:00 am. Burial to follow in Maplewood Cemetery Norwich. Calling hours at Godere Funeral Home 21 North 2nd Ave. Taftville are Friday 6-8 pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Center for Hospice Care 227 Dunham St. Norwich, CT 06360 of to Taftville Congregational Church Memorial Fund 16 North B St. Taftville, CT 06380.
