Obituary for Irving E. Wetmore, Jr.
Irving Earl Wetmore Jr. was born January 3,,1943 in Grand Rapids, MI. the third child of Captain Irving E. Wetmore Sr. and Evelyn (Poll) Wetmore. Irving grew up in Naval family with his older sisters Carolyn and Donna, younger sister Melissa and brother Carl. Being in the Navy, the family moved to many places through the years: Hawaii, SanDiego, and New Orleans, to name afew. These moves helped to developed him into the man he was. He loved people and would strike up a conversation with anyone. He genuinely wanted to help others always. On May 4th, 1968 Irving wed his dearest Michelle (St. George). Together they celebrated over 51 years of marriage had 2 daughters, Laura and Leah. Irv dedicated his life to his family and our country serving as a cook in the Navy for more than 20 years. "Gus" traveled the world on his tours.
He was an excellent cook and we joke about how he still made enough food for the whole ship at home. In the early years of their marriage he was a D.J. in West Palm Beach, his record collection was impressive but even moreso was his memory for the dates, song titles, albums names and artists. He loved music. After military service Irving kept quite busy working at various jobs. He was a volunteer with Literacy for Life at Otis Library for over 10 yrs. A most faithful parishioner at Sacred Heart Church in Taftville and a good friend to Bill W. And his members for more than a decade. Irving shared a special bond with his 2 grandchildren Zachary and Eliana Sexton, they would hang on his every word with all his stories of life at sea & countless jokes he told.
He is predeceased by his parents Irving and Evelyn, and sisters Carolyn and Donna.
He leaves his wife Michelle (St. George), daughters Laura (Todd) Sexton, Leah (Matthew) Hall, grandchildren Zachary and Eliana Sexton, a sister Melissa (Burke) Stoughton, a brother Carl (Linda) Wetmore, brothers in-law Roy (Cathy) St. George and Guy (Josephine) St. George also many cousins, nieces & a nephew.
It is with great sorrow that we lay Irving to rest but he will live on in our hearts and all the precious memories he made possible. Take a deep breath, Irving, and rest, we will see you soon.
