Obituary for John F. “Jack” Browne
John F. "Jack" Browne, 79, of Taftville passed away peacefully at Backus Hospital on June 22, 2021, surrounded by his family. Jack was a kind, considerate and gentle soul who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Jack was born in Providence, RI on June 17, 1942, to Nelda (Belmore) and Thomas B. Browne. He was a 1960 graduate of Norwich Free Academy.
Jack worked many years as a dental technician at Browne Dental Laboratory and later, as Head Custodian at Wequonnoc School, made deliveries for Uncas Pharmacy and most recently delivered medications for Utley & Jones Pharmacy. He liked to share Tootsie Pops to those he met along his route, usually bringing a smile. Jack was an avid reader, collector, craftsman and tinkerer. He was always available to help anyone in any way he could. Jack served in the Army Reserves during the years of the Vietnam War. He was a lifelong member of the Taftville Congregational Church, serving in many rolls; Deacon, Trustee, Teacher, Sexton, and ran the church food bank. Jack was also a proud charter member of the Taftville Lions Club.
Jack is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley (Shea) Browne, his daughter Gail Fargo and partner Dawn, his son Thomas and wife Kerry. He is also survived by granddaughter, Catherine Kelly and husband Joseph and their son, Jaxson, and granddaughter Julienne Browne and her fiancée Alex. He is also survived by his sister Nelda (Cookie) Strnad and husband Charles and brother Robert and wife Louise, and their children,spouses and families.
A memorial gathering will be held at Godere Funeral Home,Taftville on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at 10 am, immediately followed by a short service. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack's name to the Taftville Lions Club.
