Obituary for Joseph N. Salvemini
Norwich - Joseph N. Salvemini passed away Wednesday November 15th at his home. He was born April 16, 1936 in Hoboken, NJ to the late Marie Gesmundo DeSario. Joseph moved to Norwich in 1955 and was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy. He worked for many years at Atlantic Packaging and in later years worked as a security guard for International Security, a job he was very proud of. Joe's great love for music was eclipsed only by the love he had for his daughter, Rosemary, and his family. He was a founding member of the LaSalle's, a popular New England band he formed in 1955 along with his brothers, Anthony, Angelo and Don LaCombe. Joe wrote several songs for the band which were recorded under the MZ label, and made the Top 100 in the South. The band performed with many well-known artists such as Chubby Checker, Fats Domino, Diana Ross and Ella Fitzgerald. The band performed at the Apollo Theater in New York and many other venues throughout the New England area. Joseph is survived by his beloved daughter, Rosemary Salvemini, his daughter Anne Marie Crosett of TN, his brothers Angelo Salvemini of Groton and Anthony Salvemini and his wife Coleen of Lisbon, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. The family would especially like to thank his nurse Portia Wade as well as the many caregivers in the last several years. Also a special thank you to Officer Steven DeLoreto of the Norwich PD. Funeral service to be held at Godere Funeral Home 21 North 2nd Ave. Taftville Monday at 10:00 am. Burial to follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery Norwich. Calling hours are Sunday 4-6 pm. goderefuneralhome.com
