Obituary for June Marie Hodkinson
June Marie Hodkinson died Tuesday December 5, 2017, at Hartford Hospital following an extended illness. June was born in Norwich, Connecticut on June 10, 1954. June worked as a secretary and receptionist for over twenty years at Eastern Connecticut Dermatology. She was a life-long member of the Lee Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a lover of animals, especially cats.
As a kidney transplant recipient at the age of 18, and despite having kidney disease and cardiac disease, she lived life to the fullest and coped with the challenge of attending dialysis during her last few years with a positive attitude. She never complained and did not allow her physical illness to dampen her bubbly personality and fierce independence.
She is pre-deceased by her mother Gertrude Brown Hodkinson, father Norman Hodkinson, and step-mother Doris Rose Hodkinson. She leaves behind her step-sister, Janice Wells of Bozrah, and two step brothers, Norman R. Freyer of Homosassa, Florida, Gordon R. Freyer of Las Vegas, Nevada, and cousin Alice Stevens of Simsbury, as well as two nieces, a nephew, and her 3 cats, Poco, Callie and Isabel.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will held on Saturday, June 30th at 11:00 AM at the Lee Memorial United Methodist Church in Norwich. A graveside services will be held for family at 10:00 AM at Maplewood Cemetery immediately prior to the memorial service. Donations can be made in June’s memory to the Connecticut Humane Society or to the Lee Memorial Methodist Church.
