Obituary for Lois E. Nevel

Lois E. Nevel passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family, on Jan. 16, 2022. She was born in New London to Pauline and Calvin Heath on Aug. 16, 1930. Lois's memory was unsurpassed, and she told wonderful stories of growing up in the neighborhood near Hodges Square that was demolished for the Goldstar Bridge. She was a graduate of NFA in 1950. She married Jack Cuff, with whom she had five children. They later divorced and she married Stephen Nevel. They moved the family to the tiny villlage of Andover, ME, her mother's hometown. In true pioneer spirit, Lois raised the kids in a 1800s farmhouse and cooked their meals on a wood-fired stove she had to stoke daily. The family returned to CT, settling in Oakdale. Lois was the consumate mom and Nana, attending every event, large and small. Her home was always filled with family, friends, pets, her many hobbies, laughter and unconditional love. Lois instilled a love of books, music and animals in her children, giving them guiding passions that last till this day.

We've lost our angel, our source of comfort and wisdom, her quick wit and her abiltity to take us time traveling with her memories, her grace and kindness. Lois lives in our hearts, but there's no getting around this void that's left.

Lois is survived by her brother, Calvin H. Heath Jr. of Waterford, children John D. Cuff Jr. and wife Louise of Norwich, Sheila Sabolesky and husband Joseph of Griswold, Kevin M. Cuff of Plainfield, daughter-in-law Linda Cuff of Canterbury, and numerous grand, great grand and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sons Robert and Jeffrey Cuff, grandson Michael Cuff and her husbands.
Lois's faith in God and the fellowship she treasured at the Leffingwell Baptist Church helped her tremendously with the challenges she faced later in life.
A celebration of her life will take place at Leffingwell Baptist Church, 388 Salem Turnpike, Bozrah at 11am, Friday, Jan. 21.
