Obituary for Santo J. Zito Jr.
Santo “Larry” J Zito Jr. passed away peacefully Sunday morning (March 20) with his wife Debbie of 47 years and his children Nicholas and Amanda Zito surrounding him. He is survived by a daughter Cindy Lahue, three sisters, and a brother. He is predeceased by two sons Joseph and Lawrence Zito and his parents Ruth and Santo Zito.
Larry worked for 30 years at Pfizer making citric acid for medicine. Once he retired he held a variety of jobs: school bus driver, sexton of his church, casino van driver for a local hotel, and security for Securitas.
He loved his UCONN Huskies and Red Sox. His daughter and him were regulars at the Mohegan Sun women’s basketball team games. He was an avid bowler. He loved his dogs Maya and Hercules, who are lost without him. He enjoyed family trips to Lake George and amusement parks on the East Coast. He also loved going to fairs and flea markets. His love of ice cream especially strawberry sundaes and scallops will never be forgotten. He could eat them every day and be happy. He loved to take pictures and videos of everything, which drove his kids crazy and why there are so few photos with him in them.
Larry was always a man of few words, but he was the kindest, sweetest person you would have ever met. He was always known by his kids that when mom said no, dad always said yes.
Calling hours will be Wednesday 5-7pm at Godere Funeral home in Taftville. Funeral services with military honors will be at Maplewood Cemetery at 11am on Thursday. A celebration of life will be held following at First Congregational Church of Norwichtown. Family is asking in lieu of flowers to send donations to the First Congregational Church of Norwichtown.
